According to a report in Sport (page 20), Manchester United is highly interested in securing the services of Barcelona defender Jules Kounde during the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils, who are expected to bolster their defense, have been linked with other defenders such as Jarrad Branthwaite and Gleison Bremer.

Sport suggests that United’s interest in Kounde is substantial, especially considering Barcelona’s financial difficulties, which may prompt them to sell players. Sporting director Deco is reportedly looking to offload at least two defenders to address the club’s financial situation, with Kounde potentially being one of them alongside Andreas Christensen.

Kounde’s adaptability on the field makes him an ideal signing for Manchester United. With Raphael Varane’s future beyond this season uncertain, as his contract expires in June and an extension clause isn’t expected to be triggered, Kounde could be an excellent replacement in the first-team squad.

Valued at £51 million, Kounde boasts an impressive passing accuracy of 91 percent this season. He has also been successful in winning 56 percent of his duels, while averaging 2.7 clearances and 4.7 ball recoveries per league match.

Kounde, primarily a central defender, has showcased his versatility by featuring in an equal number of games at right-back since joining Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2022. This adaptability enhances his appeal as a potential signing for Manchester United.

In addition to seeking defensive reinforcements, United is also in the market for a new right-back, especially with the possibility of Aaron Wan-Bissaka departing this summer.

Despite being 25 years old, Kounde has faced injury setbacks throughout the current campaign. United has not initiated discussions regarding a contract extension beyond June 2025. Given his capability to operate at right-back, Kounde could offer valuable cover in that position if needed.
